Loretta Lynch
Loretta Lynch served as President of the
California Public Utilities Commission and is currently one
of five Commissioners charged
with regulating telecommunications, energy, commercial transportation,
and water companies.
Born in Independence, Missouri, Ms. Lynch
is a graduate of the University of Southern California and
Yale Law School. She
clerked for the Honorable Dorothy W. Nelson, U.S. Court
of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and worked as class action counsel
for the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles.
Ms. Lynch has worked in key roles in a number
of political campaigns, including Van de Kamp for Governor
(1990), Clinton
for President (1992), Dianne Feinstein for U.S. Senate (1992),
and Delaine Eastin, California Superintendent of Public Instruction
(1994). Ms. Lynch also volunteered for Ellen Taucher’s first
Congressional campaign (1996) and for Gray Davis’s 1998 campaign
for Governor.
Prior to her appointment to the Public Utilities
Commission, Ms. Lynch was the Director of Governor Davis’s Office of Planning
and Research. Before entering public service, Ms. Lynch
was a partner in the litigation firm of Keker & Van Nest,
where she represented corporate clients and individuals from
technology and industrial sectors.
